Tiggly Words: Stamp up vowels on your tablet screen
Based on the fact that kids learn best when they engage all of their senses, the Tiggly Words’ applications bring audio, visual and physical interaction together for a complete learning experience for children of ages 4 to 8. The toy vowels are brightly colored and big enough for children to comfortably move around the screen.
Tiggly Words target language and vocabulary skills one letter at a time. Three award-winning mobile applications that come with are able to recognize the 5 vowel stamps and with each word you make, the characters and the scene on the screen change.
In Tiggly Tales, for example, you are given a word with two consonants and a blank space. By inserting one of the vowels, you see if you have created the name of an object. If you have, the object appears in the screen with animation. If your combination is not a word, a spring will eject your wrong vowel. After placing several correct vowels, you can animate these object with your finger.
Tiggly Submarine is an underwater adventure which you move your submarine around for different activities involving a turtle, an octopus, an underwater elevator and a cave, again, using your vowel stamps to make up words.
Tiggly Doctor is a little more challenging than the others in that it requires completing action verbs to cure their patients’ funny problems. This app offers more than 100 verbs and more complicated words. As the doctor gets more experienced, the words get harder.
Each application has its own dynamics, characters and puzzles to solve; but the main action is inserting the vowels correctly to be able to advance in the games. The vowel stamps have silicone surfaces that the tablet screen easily recognizes as it would your finger.
As well as a kid whose native language is English, Tiggly Words is also helpful for children who are learning English as a second language at early age.
Tiggly products cover iPad-connected apps with toys that interact with those apps. The game has also Shapes and Counts versions which also help children build basic shape and number skills. Most apps from Tiggly support all versions of iPad, iPad mini and Android tablets.
